Imphal: Paona Mongpham Protection & Celebration Committee (PMPCC) has appealed to the government to construct a monument at Lilong Arapti Maning Leikai where the last rite of Paona Brajabashi was held.
Talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, PMPCC President Yumkhaibam Bimol Meitei said that the committee has been appealing to the concerned authorities for construction of a memorial site of Paona in the said area and to resolve conflict over the observance of Khongjom day for years but no positive response has been received from the side of government till date. If the government does not want to fulfill the demand of the committee then the committee along with the people will start constructing the memorial site of Paona.
He said that as observed every year, the committee will offer floral tribute to Ibudhou Paona Brajabashi (Naon Singh) at his graveyard at Lilong Arapti Maning Leikai, Paona Mongpham under Thoubal district on April 26.
The observance will be attended by Director of Art & Culture L. Kishworjit Singh, PMPCC president Y. Bimol Meitei, Joint Secretary of Social Welfare Bantee Konthoujam, MMAS Executive Officer, Lilong, Thoubal Municipal Council Mainam Rajen Singh, Social Activists AK Ibomcha Angom and Nandalal Angomcha and Advocate of High Court of Manipur/ Supreme Court M. Kouroungamba Luwang as Chief Guest, Functional President and Guests of Honours respectively, informed Bimol.
Paying floral tribute to the photo of the martyred Paona Brajabashi will be the main feature of the day. Khongjom Praba and Thang-Ta will be showcased as a part of the observance, he added.
