Sensitisation on POCSO Act 2012, Child Marriage held

Imphal: District Child Protection Unit, Kakching, Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with District Administration, Kakching organized sensitisation programme on POCSO Act, 2012 & Child Marriage at NIC Conference Hall, DC Complex, Kakching on Tuesday.
The programme was presided by Deputy Commissioner, Kakching Somorjit Salam and attended by District Level Officers of Kakching district.
In the Sensitization programme, Mala Lisham, Programme Officer, SCPS, Social Welfare and Reena Chanu
Moirangthem, Legal cum Probation Officer, DCPU, Kakching spoke on the topic “JJ Act, 2015” and “POCSO Act, 2012 & Child Marriage” as resource persons respectively.

Deputy Commissioner, Somorjit Salam observed that maximum programme on “JJ Act, 2015” and “POCSO Act, 2012 & Child Marriage” should be organised in the district in order to create more Sensitization and awareness to the general public. He also urged the concerned department to organize such programme covering the Students, ASHA workers, Self Help Groups etc.
Mala Lisham, Programme Officer, SCPS said that under the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015, Children were categorize as Children in need of Care and Protection (CNCP) and Child in Conflict with Law (CCL). Children in need of Care and Protection were looked after by Child Welfare Committee while Child in Conflict with Law were monitor by the Juvenile Justice Board.
District Child Protection Unit under ICPS is an unit which is set up to coordinate and implement all child rights and protection activities at the district level. It ensure effective implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
