Imphal: The JAC against the killing of Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging Meitei and mothers of KANGLAMEI, WASDEV, IKAL, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi and AMKIL demanded the government to hand over the case of Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging to the NIA by March 20.
Talking to media persons in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club on Friday, Longjam Memchoubi , President Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi stated that Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging was allegedly killed by his girlfriend Sonia, Moses and Stephen who are cadres of NSCN on February 11.
She said that a JAC was also formed in connenction with the death of Nonganba and demanded to deliver justice. The culprits had also been arrested and the JAC along with the mothers have been demanding the state government to award capital punishment to the culprits.
Stating that various protest have been carried out demanding punishment to the culprits, she said the mothers have appealed to CM on March 11 and even submitted memorandum regarding the alleged killing of Nonganba. CM also said that the culprits have been arrested and assured that the accused Stephen will also be arrested at the earliest. NSCN has also clarified on the matter, contending that they
are not involved in the killing of Nonganba and that it was entirely the intention of the culprit.
Memchoubi said that the JAC along with the mother’s have repeatedly demanded the state government to hand over the case to NIA at the earliest. She lamented that the CM had given assurance but no actions have been taken up till today. She fervently urgeeld the government to hand over the case to NIA before March 20 without fail. Victim family will claim the dead body only when the demand is fulfilled.
It may be mentioned that late Nonganba‘s mother Akoijam (o) Shantibala is on fast since February 12, the day when the body of Nonganba was recovered from the spot.
Nonganba was found dead near Changoubung Village, beside west of NH-2 in Kangpokpi district on February 12 afternoon and the police suspected that Nonganba’s death was caused by injuries after being brutally attacked with hard objects.
The police team had arrested one Moses (deputy kilonser of NSCN-IM) on February 13 and arrested
Thokchom Sonia of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai, Imphal West on February 17. Another prime suspect
of the case, Stephen Dangmei has not yet been arrested.
