Imphal: Acting on a reliable information about transportation of illegal drugs at Lilong area, a combined team of Thoubal District Commando, Narcotic Cell Imphal East and a team of Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA) arrested three youths with 3400 numbers of WY Tablets from Lilong Arapti Bridge on Saturday around 6 am.

The arrested youths have been identified as Md. Farish Khan (24 years), son of late Md. Seraj Khan of Moijing Awang Kangjeibung, Washim Khan (24), son of Feij Ahamed of lilong Sambrukhong, and Md. Yunush Ali (25), son of Md. Yakub Ali of Lilong Leihaokhong Makok.

The Commando team also seized one Tata Safari Storm, black in colour, bearing registration number MN1S/1982 which was used for transportation of the contraband drugs.

According to Police sources, acting on the information, the combined team led by Thoubal Commando OC Inspector N. Tikendra Meetei under the command of Additional SP (Operations) Thoubal Sachidananda Soibam and under the supervision of SP Thoubal Jogeschandra Haobijam conducted intensive frisking and checking at Lilong Arapti Bridge as a preventive security measures for the upcoming Independence Day Celebration 2021. During the checking, the combined team detected the seized Tata safari Storm occupied by the three arrestees coming in suspicious manner towards Arapti from Lilong side.

On searching the vehicle, the team detected one black colour polythene
containing 3400 numbers of suspected WY tablets  and three mobile
handsets along with sim cards and was seized from their possession by
observing formalities.

The arrested persons and the seized illegal items have been handed
over to Lilong Police Station for further necessary legal action, the
source added.
