Three drug peddlers arrested with 25 kg opium

Imphal: A team of Imphal West District Narcotics Cell arrested three drug
peddlers including a woman with 25.279 kg of opium from near Malom
Tulihal Airport, Tiddim Road on Saturday at around 3 am.

The arrested persons were identified as Jangminlen Vaiphei (35 years), son of late Thangtilal Vaiphei of Motbung Bazar; Mangsat Haokip (49), son of late Thanglet Haokip of Motbung; and Nemneilhing Touthang (32), wife of Jangthang Touthang of KS Lhangnom Village, all in Kangpokpi District.

According to police sources, acting on a reliable, the Narcotics Cell team led by SI M. Sunzu Luwang under the command of Imphal West Narcotics Cell OC Inspector L. Bikramjit Singh and under the supervision of Imphal West SP Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh conducted frisking and checking of the passers-by at Tiddim road.

During the checking, one Duster SUV, grey in colour, bearing registration no. MN02G-1282 coming from Churachandpur towards Imphal was stopped for checking near Malom Tulihal Airport

 On checking the vehicle in presence of Executive Magistrate and civil
witnesses, 26 plastic packets suspected to be containing  contraband
drugs, opium (kaani), having  an overall weight of 25.279 kg were
seized.

The arrested persons and the seized articles have been handed over to
Lamphal Police Station. A case has also been registered at Lamphel
Police Station for further investigation, the source added.
