Imphal: Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Manipur Pradesh President Manoharmayum Barish Sharma has urged the SP Imphal West to lodge an FIR against former Manipur Police Services (MPS) officer Thounaojam Brinda for making unsubstantiated allegations.
Notably, Brinda had alleged that the ongoing ethnic clashes in the State was ignited by Arambai Tengol/Meitei Leepun and that Manoharmayum Barish Sharma was arrested for political gains.
In a letter addressed to the Superintendent of Police Imphal West District, Manoharmayum Barish Sharma stated that an audio recording has surfaced on social media wherein Thounaojam Brinda (Retd. MPS) mentioned that the ongoing ethnic clashes was ignited by the Arambai Tengol/Meitei Leepun since May 3, and have allegedly burnt down many Meitei houses in Churachandpur on the advice of Chief Minister N.Biren Singh.
In the letter, the BJP leader claimed that the accused person has also even threatened to attempt on his life, thereby putting his life and security and his dependents in danger.
It stated that such allegations are likely to instigate many who might attack him due to the unsubstantiated allegations made by the accused person.
It further stated that the allegations have also caused irreparable loss and injury to the Chief Minister and the State Government before the eyes of the public of the State.
The BJYM President urged the SP Imphal West to give direction to the OC Imphal Police Station to lodge an FIR and arrest the accused person for ends of justice.
Earlier Thounaojam Brinda, former Assistant Superintendent of Police had clarified that she was misinformed by a video she saw on social media, over the ongoing violence in the State.
Her clarification came after she agitated the Arambai Tenggol, a Meitei socio-cultural organisation and Meitei Leepun, an organisation committed to preserving Meitei culture and tradition, by saying they were responsible for the violence in the State.
On Wednesday, members of Meitei Leepun thronged Brinda’s residence at Yaiskul in Imphal West and asked her to provide evidence for her statement.
However, she retracted her statement later and apologised, saying that she wrongly accused Arambai Tenggol and Meitei Leepun of being involved in the violence in the State.
She clarified that both the organisations had nothing to do with the ongoing turmoil in the State.
