Imphal: Minister of State for Education Dr RK Ranjan said that a prosperous and sustainable future can be built by rethinking the role of education, upskilling the workforce and creating an innovation
ecosystem.
Addressing the gathering at the Jagran Josh Education Awards 2023 held at Lalit, New Delhi on Wednesday, Dr RK Ranjan said that Education is the key to unlocking the potential of individuals and communities. It provides the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in life. It enables us to access better jobs, higher wages, and a better quality of life.
Elaborating on the significance of Education, the minister said Education is the cornerstone of progress and development. In today’s rapidly changing world, we need to rethink the role of education in our society. The traditional approach to education, which focuses on rote learning and theoretical knowledge, is not suitable to prepare our youth for the challenges of the future. Education is the most powerful weapon which one can use to change the world. It is the key to open the doors of success and create a better future for India. The purpose of education system is to develop good human beings, possessing compassion and empathy, capable of rational thought and action, having courage and resilience, creative imagination with sound ethical valuee, he maintained.
He said that Ministry of Education of Government of India aims at doing our best in terms of policy and guidelines to facilitate in having engaged, productive, and committed citizens to build an equitable, inclusive, and plural society as envisaged in the Constitution of India. NEP 2020 envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transform India into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society by providing high quality education to all. Our vision is to make India a global knowledge superpower. And in this regard, several initiatives have been taken.
The New National Education Policy 2020 is designed to transition the education sector in India towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Core areas of focus include emerging technologies; be it use of
artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented and virtual reality; or use of smart boards, adaptive computer testing, educational software platforms, he pointed out.
Stating that Entrepreneurship is very important as it accelerates economic growth of a society, he said that Technology has been leading the India’s development and we are witnessing a massive rise in
creativity and innovation among our youth who are foraying into non-traditional, disruptive business models. To succeed in the digital age, we need to provide our students with practical skills and
hands-on experience. This can be achieved through digitization of technical and vocational education. By leveraging technology, we can make education accessible to all, irrespective of their location or socio economic background. In this regard, institutes of national importance can play a crucial role by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and quality education that can help students acquire the skills they need to succeed in the digital age. We also need to focus on upskilling the skiller to meet the demands of the changing job market, he maintained.

He further said that The Atma Nirbhar Bharat Yojana provides an excellent platform to leverage technology to make education accessible to all. Through this initiative, we can create a conducive environment for innovation, research and development, and entrepreneurship. This can help us build an innovation ecosystem through smart campuses that can nurture the talents of students and researchers alike. “Education is not only about employment but also about empowering individuals to live a better life. By providing access to quality education and training, we can equip individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to be productive citizens who contribute to the growth and development of the nation. As a country, we are taking concrete steps towards achieving these goals by implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 with the involvement of all the stakeholders”, he added.
