Imphal: Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh sent greetings on the auspicious occasion of “Sajibu Nongma Panba” or “Cheiraoba” or New Year of the Meitei community, which fell on March 22 under the Lunar Calendar.
A greeting message said that it began during the reign of King Maliya Fambalcha (1359 BC-1329 BC) who started the Meitei Calendar year when he ascended the throne at his personal age of 25. The day is observed with piousness and serenity at both the physical and mental levels, followed by preparing traditional cuisine and making a ritual offering to the Lord or Guardian of the land. On this New Year Day
of the Meitei Community, he wished all the people living in different communities in our land peace, harmony, and prosperity in the year ahead.
Health Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh has conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Sajibu Cheiraoba, which marks the New Year Day of the Meitei/Meeteis. Sajibu Cheiraoba, which fell on the first day of the calendar year of the Meitei/Meetei, i.e., Sajibu Nongma Panba, is one of the most significantly celebrated festivals of the state. May this year’s Cheiraoba Festival bring happiness, prosperity, peace, brotherhood, strength, and unity amongst communities in the State.
