Imphal: A team of Churachandpur Police Station seized 2.216 kg of Opium and 4.4 kg of poppy seeds from an individual while conducting search of his residence at K.Salemphai village, Churachandpur on Thursday at around 9 AM, informed a source.
On receipt of reliable information that a huge quantity of contraband Opium was being stored at the residence of one Jampao Haokip (56), son of Late Jamkhothang Haokip of Mongneljang village, Senapati district presently staying at K. Salemphai village, Churachandpur, a team of Churachandpur Police Station led by Inspector N.Thangzamuan, OC CCP PS and SI Zairemthang rushed to the area.
The police team identified the house and thereafter a requisition was made to the District Magistrate Churachandpur to depute one EM for house search.
SDM Tuibuong, namely Jangminlen Lupho, arrived at the spot. While conducting house search, one suspected Opium packed in one Everyday milk powder packet weighing 866 gram including the weight of the packet, one suspected Opium packed in a white polythene weighing 1350 gram including the weight of the polythene and suspected poppy seed packed in a black cloth weighing 4.40 kg including the weight of the cloth were found in the house, the source said.
The suspected contraband drugs were seized at 9.45 AM and sealed in a white cloth in the presence of the SDM Tuibuong and civil witnesses. The individual was arrested at around 9.50 AM.
A case under FIR no. 30(3)2023 CCP-PS u/s 18(c) ND & PS Act has been registered for investigation. One Maruti A Star car silver in colour bearing registration number WB 06D 4351 which was used in transporting the contraband items was also recovered from his house, it added.
