Imphal: Rotary Club of Imphal (RID 3240) organized a Rotary Car Rally to spread awareness on “Save Loktak Lake, Save Environment and Say No To Plastic” along with the promotion of “Rotary’s – The Four Way Test” on Sunday.
The rally was flagged off by Rtn M. Harekrishna, IAS, Commissioner, Govt. of Manipur from Rotary Bhavan, Mantripukhri and ended at the Loktak Lake, Sendra in Bishnupur district. Rally teams stopped at Nambol Bazar, Bishnupur Bazar and Moirang Bazar and distributed about 1000 Eco-friendly cloth bags along with pamphlets inscribed with Rotary’s – “The Four Way Test” to the general public at the three bazaars to spread the message of “Save Loktak Lake, Save Environment and Say No To Plastic”.
The rally ended at Loktak Lake, Sendra by handing over a plaque inscribed with “Rotary’s – The Four Way Test to L. Bhagaton Singh, Director, Loktak Development Authority by the president of the club. Bhagaton thanked the members of Rotary Club of Imphal for organizing such awareness programmes based on Loktak Lake encouraging the public to say no to plastic and instead use Eco-friendly bags.
Later a lunch was arranged by him for all the participating members and family members of Rotary
Club of Imphal. The programme was organized as part of golden jubilee year celebration of the club.
Earlier on Saturday, Rotary Club of Imphal, as a part of its continuing community service project, visited Yaibilen Children Home, Keibi, Imphal East and had organized a lunch for the children of the Home under the theme “Rotary Chaklen Chaminnasi”. Eatable items were also handed over to the Home for the children which were sponsored by Rtn. Yolga Yambem and Rtn. Ramesh Agarwal.Rtn. Pramod Jaiswal, President of the club, appealed to the general public to help save the Loktak.
Lake and use Eco-friendly bags while doing daily marketing. He thanked the District Administration, Bishnupur and the District Police, Bishnupur for giving logistic support for a smooth conduct of the programme. He also thanked Director, LDA for the support during the awareness programme to help save the Loktak Lake. He said that the club has been organizing tree plantation programme at different places of the state every year to save the environment.
