After petrol bomb, Cong office attacked with rotten eggs

TMB Report

Imphal: A day after the Congress office was attacked by lobbing petrol bombs and setting a fire at its entrance gate, unknown miscreants once again reportedly attacked the party’s office at BT Road by hurling rotten eggs.

MPCC General Secretary (Admn) S Jiten Singh said that a group of unknown persons who came in a red colour Swift car attacked the Congress office by lobbing rotten eggs at about 3.50 PM on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier on Friday night at about 10 PM, some unknown miscreants who came in three vehicles attacked the party office by lobbing petrol bombs and setting a fire at the gate of party’s office as seen on the CCTV camera installed nearby, he said.

A team of MPCC General Secretaries, President of NSUI, MPYC and social media team on Saturday visited Imphal City Police and lodged separate complaints demanding arrest of the culprits involved in attacking the Congress office.

With regard to the attack with petrol bombs, City PS had earlier registered a case, Jiten divulged.

Meanwhile, strongly denouncing the attack on Congress Bhawan, members of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) staged a sit-in-protest at the gate of Congress Bhawan on Saturday.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, MPCC General Secretary Md. Wahidur Rahaman said that the party staged the protest demonstration denouncing the attack at Congress Bhawan by some unknown miscreants on Friday evening.

Questioning how the unknown miscreants ventured into committing such a crime at the Congress office located in a high security zone area which is not far from the Governor Bungalow and City Police Station, he demanded the concerned authorities to book all the culprits involved in the incident at the earliest.

He said that the attack carried out on the Congress office situated in a high security zone area is a mockery of the ‘improved’ law and order condition as claimed by the BJP government.

He said that the Congress party cannot accept that the law and order of the State has improved as the present government cannot arrest the culprits till now.

The State Government should book all the culprits involved in the incident and threatening the grand old party within 24 hours, else democracy will be meaningless in the land, he added.

The Congress leader also lamented that not a single police officer visited the Congress office to inquire about the incident except for some personnel of City Police who came and clicked the picture of the scene. Attacking Congress party office is an attack against the people of the State, he said.

He said that some workers of a political party attacked Congress Bhawan in the past but no FIR was lodged against them despite requests made to the concerned police station and the government.

However, the police department has registered a case against the individuals in the interest of a particular political party. Police conducted a search operation at the house of a youth Congress leader, he added.

If the Sate Government does not take up any measures to arrest the culprits involved in the incident, then various forms of agitation will be launched after consulting with the leaders, Wahidur Rahaman cautioned.

The protesters held placards that read, “We condemn thevpetrol bomb attack and setting of fire at the gate of Congress, “We condemn FIR against innocent persons”, “Revoke FIR against MPYCC President Popilal”, “Democracy is under threat” etc.
