Imphal: United Women Rights Defender (UWRD) has demanded capital punishment for those culprits involved in crime against women and rape and to speed up the process for delivering justice to the victims.
Talking to media persons, member of Women Action for Development (WAD) Kshetrimayum Sapna stated that seven different women organisation namely United Women Rights Defender which included Christian Network Positive Women, Manipur (CNPW), Women Action for Development (WAD) , Domestic Violence Forum (DVF), Conflict Widow Forum (COWF), Street Vendor Forum, People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) and different type of survivor forum jointly organised a meeting that adopted various resolutions.
She said that the demand includes delivering timely justice to the victims after proper investigation and to appoint the judges in need.
The committee demanded proper investigation in the case and to speed up the process of delivering justice in view of the crimes being on the rise. There is an urgent need for DNA testing machine in the state in view of the failure to get the reports on time has delayed the investigation process.
She while expressing concern over the increasing crimes against women in the state appealed to the government to take up necessary actions on time and give capital punishment to the culprits in order to reduce the crimes against women.
