Imphal: Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch observed World Health Day on the theme ‘Health for All’ at IMA, Lamphelpat on Friday.
Speaking as the Chief Guest Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar said that it is mandatory to stay healthy and the observation of World Health Day is to spread the importance of good health and to spread medical awareness and providing medical facility all over the world. He stressed on early detection of many diseases which has been increasing in order to prevent ourselves and stay healthy.
Stating that people have the habit of mostly getting treatment when diagnosed rather than taking preventive care, Arunkumar said that mental health issue is increasing today and there is need to spread more awareness to the youths as suicide case is increasing in the state also. He said that during Covid, various measures were taken up and some of these precautions have been carried out till today .
He urged on timely and early detection of diseases like diabetes, BP and stressed on spreading awareness as death due to BP strokes have been rapidly increasing. He appealed to the people to stay health and stated that there is need for good health.
He raised concerned on increasing use of chemical fertilizers for increase production which has caused various health hazards and hoped that the concerned department will look into it.
President of the function and President of IMA, Manipur State Branch, Dr RK Lenin said that World Health Day is also the 75th foundation day of WHO and under the guidelines of WHO, Walkathon and Cyclothon was also organised in the state as a part of the observation which was flagged off from Kangla Western Gate by MS RIMS, Dr Nepram Sanjib.
The observation was also attended by Dr Ng Arunkumar, Dr S Gojendro, Dr Y Premchand and Dr James Elangbam. An ex tempore speech competition was also organised as a part of the function.
