Tangkhul Leihsak Long celebrates silver jubilee

Ukhrul: Under the theme “Our Economy, The Backbone of Our Community,” the Tangkhul Leihsak Long (TLL) celebrated its 25th anniversary at Town Hall, Ukhrul District Headquarters on Wednesday.

The occasion was graced by Minister of Animal Husbandry, Vet, and Transport Khashim Vashum as Chief Guest; retd UAS Ram Muivah, Ukhrul AC MLA Ram Muivah, retd IAS and Headman of Hunphun HA Khayaiwo as Guests of Honour.

TLL President Peacemoon Zimik said that awards were given to shop owners in the past for punctuality, customer friendliness, and most hard-working shops to encourage the business owners.

He said that Suisa Rungsung, Ramkaiphang Ramrar, Arim Raikhan, Ningaima and Habib Shaiza were business pioneers.

Reverend Remember Rimai appealed to the people to abstain from drug abuse as it has adverse effects in the society. He also emphasised on the need to maintain work culture and ethical business practices.

Rev. Rimai also requested the three MLAs of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts to set up a sub-office in the district to enhance public representation. He acknowledged the improvement in the condition of the circular road in Ukhrul.

HA Khayaiwo said that TLL has taught the Tangkhul about business and trade and business among the Tangkhul is made possible because of Ukhrul/Hunphun. As Leihmah Hongray and his colleagues founded the TLL, the others learned the ways of business through them, he added.

Ram Muivah emphasised on the limitation of government salaries, contrasting it with the boundless possibilities for entrepreneurs.

Drawing inspiration from Dhirubhai Ambani’s transformative impact on affordable synthetic sarees in India, he expressed hope that Tangkhul entrepreneurs will come up with many innovative initiatives while citing establishment of Shija Hospitals and medical colleges.

Khashim Vashum said that today he is not here as an MLA or a Minister but as a fellow entrepreneur, reminiscing his past entrepreneurial endeavours.

Stressing on the importance of local products, he recounted his involvement in promoting local items in Ukhrul. He urged experienced businessmen in the audience to mentor and guide young entrepreneurs in introducing local products to the market

As TLL marked 25 years of existence, the focus remains on fostering a thriving economy with integrity and community well-being at its core. The event witnessed a reflection of the organisation’s commitment to sustainable growth and positive societal impact.
