Sensitisation to reduce discriminating transgender held

Imphal: A day-long awareness cum sensitisation programme on ‘Reducing discrimination against Transgender community” was held at Chaprou community hall under Imphal West district on Friday. 

The programme was organised by Community Health Centre Wangoi in association with SAATHI under the initiative of District Health Society, Imphal West. 

The awareness cum sensitisation programme was attended by Medical Officer of CHC Wangoi Dr. N. Sushila, Consultant of SAATHI Y. Sabana, ETA President Yambung Oinam and Transwoman Rupa Yumnam as dignitaries. 

As a part of the programme, a free medical check-up was conducted, apart from distributing free medicines, screening for HIV, Hepatitis and various other diseases.

 A short drama conveying the message to stop discrimination against transgender was showcased.  

MO Wangoi CHC Dr. N. Sushila said that the programme was organised with the objective to reduce discrimination against the transgender community in the State. Through this programme, various discrimination and inconveniences being faced by the transgender community can be reduced. Such similiar programme will be organised in different areas of Wangoi, she added. 

She appealed to the people of the state to treat the transgenders kindly instead of discriminating them.
