LADCS office inaugurated at Bishnupur Court complex

Imphal: Justice, A. Bimol Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur and Executive Chairman, Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) and Justice A.Guneshwar Sharma, Judge High Court of Manipur and Chairperson, High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) jointly inaugurated the office of the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System (LADCS) for the district of Bishnupur at Bishnupur Court Complex on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Bimol stated that the LADCS aims to provide the free legal aid and assistance to poor and needy individuals w.r.t representation/conducting trial and appeals including all miscellaneous work in all criminal matters.
He highlighted that the office of the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System for the State of Manipur was initially implemented for four districts viz. Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur where legal aided cases are maximum.
For the remaining five districts viz. Senapati, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Chandel and Tamenglong where the legal aided cases are minimal, the Legal Aid Defense Counsels which are recruited for the Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur will be utilised on rotational basis as per the requirements, he conveyed.
The inauguration programme was attended by Letkho Kipgen, District and Sessions Judge, Bishnupur; Ojesh Mutum, Member Secretary, MASLSA; Sonykumar Nepram, OSD, MASLSA; Sadananda Sorokhaibam, Addl. Member Secretary, MASLSA; Sharda Yengkhom, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, DLSA Bishnupur; Ahanthem Leonid, JMFC/CJJD, Noney along with President and Executive Members of Bishnupur District Bar Association; Advocates; Front office of District Legal Services Authority and staff of Manipur State Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authority, Bishnupur.
Mention may be made that LADCS is a scheme under National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), to provide free legal aid to poor needy people facing criminal cases to defend themselves w.r.t representation/conducting trial and appeals including all miscellaneous work in all criminal matters.
