JAC threatens stir over Amarjit’s killing

Imphal: The Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Laishram Amarjit alias Ethoi, Lamlai has demanded the concerned authorities to book the culprits involved in the killing.

Talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, JAC Convenor Elangbam Dayananda Singh warned that if the State Government fails to turn the demand into action, the JAC along with the people will launch a series of agitations. He also demanded the concerned authorities to provide a suitable government job to the wife of the deceased or family member.

Recounting the incident, he said that deceased Amarjit along with his four friends left home at around 9 PM on March 9 for Thabal Chongba at the football ground near Yaingangpokpi PHC. After some hours, he returned home on foot but his four friends stayed back at the place of Thabal Chongba. Later, the deceased was found unconscious with a bruise mark on his head at one waiting shed at Sabungkok Khunou at around 12 midnight. Fortunately, one passerby, who identified as a staff of Yaingangpokpi PS, rushed him to Raj Medicity, he added.

He further narrated that on the next day on March 10; Amarjit underwent a surgical operation on his head by the doctors of Raj Medicity and was admitted to the ICU. After treatment at ICU for eight days, Amarjit was shifted to General Ward for further treatment with his health condition improving.

Unfortunately, at around 8.30 AM on March 31, he was admitted again at ICU following complaints of difficulty in breathing. Later at around 9.30 AM, he was confirmed dead.

On the same day, his lifeless body was brought to JNIMS morgue and conducted post mortem. However, the report of the post mortem has not been received till date, Dayananda said.

In connection with the unfortunate incident, a suo-moto case was registered at Yaingangpokpi PS under FIR NO. 03(03) 2023YPI-PS. Unfortunately, there is no sign of progress in the investigation of the case even after 38 days, he rued.

He appealed to the Police Department to properly investigate the incident and book all the culprits involved in the killing and deliver justice to the deceased within April 22.
