SP warns against use of modified silencer

Imphal: With an objective to minimise noise pollution and crime activities in the state, Imphal West District Police has seized 187 unauthorised modified silencer pipes of motorcycle and removed tinted glass from 354 vehicles in the month of March.

Talking to reporters at the complex of Imphal west District Police Headquarter, Babupara here on Saturday, Imphal West Superintendent of Police Dr. S Ibomcha said that in the month of March, Imphal West police, its sub-police stations and units seized 187 unauthorised modified silencer pipes, apart from removing tinted glass from 354 vehicles. 

He disclosed that out of the total seized of unauthorised modified silencer pipes, Wangoi PS seized 25 modified silencer pipes, City PS-17, Lamphel PS-38, CDO Unit IW-90 (ASI L. Sharat-21), Sekmai PS-3, Imphal PS-38, Lamshan PS-40, Singjamei PS-22, Patsoi PS-4 and out of total 354 tinted glass removed, Lamphel PS removed 17 tinted glass, Singjamei PS-10, City PS-14, Imphal PS-21, Sekmai PS-9, Patsoi PS-9, Mayang Imphal PS-2, Wangoi PS-27, Lamshang PS-26 and CDO IW-219. 

He said that out of the different Police stations, Lamshang police station has bagged the first prize for seizing highest number of unauthorised modified silencer pipes and ASI L. Sharat bagged first by seizing 21 unauthorised modified silencer pipes.

He said that the seized modified silencer pipes of motorcycle will be damaged soon.

He further said that as per Supreme Court ruling, the vehicle glass should be transparent by 75 percent and 55 percent transparent on the side but the tinted glass which were removed from 354 vehicles were all non-visible from outside. The police removed the tinted glass to minimize various unwanted scenes and crime activities such as using drugs, kidnapping, transportation of drugs, etc, the SP maintained. 

He appealed to the people of the state particularly the youth not to use such unauthorised modified silencer pipes in the future. If any individuals continue using the modified silencer pipes, then heavy fine will be imposed as per law. Legal action will be taken up against those individuals who use tinted glass at their vehicles with fine. 

The SP maintained that if any individual want to use tinted glass then the person have to apply the Home Department and  only after approval of a committee, the person can use the tinted glass. Police do not want to give unnecessary harassment to the public in view of improper awareness among the people , the SP added. 

SP handed over wall clocks along with an appreciation certificates to the Police station and Commando unit unit who seized the highest number of silencers pipes.
