Cross border smuggling foiled

Imphal: Somsai Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) foiled timber smuggling in the general area of Awangkasom village of Ukhrul district on Thursday. The Assam Rifles troops intercepted five trucks loaded with illegal timber in general area Awangkasom village, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.6 crore.
The seized timber along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to Forest Beat Officer, Awangkasom for further legal action, said a press release of IGAR(S).
On the other hand, Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) foiled crosborder smuggling of Gold Biscuits at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi on Thursday.
Based on specific Input, troops of Assam Rifles recovered 10 suspected Gold Biscuits from a commuter travelling on a Two Wheeler at the permanent vehicle check post, Khudengthabi.
The Gold Biscuits were concealed in the Commuter’s Shoes. The individual was travelling from Moreh to Imphal. The recovered Gold Biscuits weighed approximately 1660gms and were assessed to be worth Rs1.01 Crores.
The seized Gold Biscuits, along with the apprehended individual, were handed over to Customs Department, Moreh for further investigation, the press release added.
