Imphal: Information & Public Relations (DIPR) Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh on Tuesday kicked off a 5-day long 13th Annual Journalists’ Sports Meet-2023 of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) at Manipur Press Club.
AMWJU President Wangkhemcha Shamjai, General Secretary Khwairakpam Naoba, Standing Committee members and senior journalists accompanied the Minister in fetching the sacred flame from the Kangla.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the ceremony, Minister Ranjan extended his warm greetings to the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Yaoshang festival. He appealed to the people to celebrate the festival of colour by taking proper precaution and abstaining from consuming drugs and alcohol, mainly while driving to avoid deadly accidents.
He said that AMWJU has putin hard efforts to organise the annual journalists’ sports meet which will provide a platform to the of the State to exchange ideas and showcase their talents in the event. Wangkhemcha Shamjai said that AMWJU has been organising the annual journalists’ sports meet annually to showcase the talents and skills possessed by both men and women journalists of the State in games and sports.
He said that various events including athletes, volleyball, football, cricket, chess and table tennis will feature in the five day sports meet. He also wished the people of the State a very happy Yaoshang festival.
It may be mentioned that all the indoor games of the sports event will be played at the Indoor Stadium of DM College while outdoor games such as football and cricket will be played at Khuman Lampak artificial ground and Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium respectively. The sports meet will conclude
on March 11.
