Imphal: Letpao Haokip, Minister Youth Affairs and Sports, has launched Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Tuesday.
Sports Minister Letpao Haokip expressed his happiness and gratefulness to the government of India for selecting Khuman Lampak Sports Complex for Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE). In this centre, three events namely Archery, Weightlifting and Hockey are available but I will demand the Sports Ministry to add another event like Boxing which have produced many international boxers like Mary Kom, Sarita Laishram and others from the State. We had handed over the Artificial Football Ground at Langjing Achouba to the public recently which was constructed by the Water Resources Department with a cost of Rs 11.14 crores. The construction started in 2017-18 under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi according to his promise in 2014 for the peoples of Manipur. The Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur have started the construction of three football fields with RCC gallery at Hao ground Chingamathak, Hiyangthang and Charoibung which is about to be completed. And we are looking forward to the construction of Mini Stadium in 32 sub divisions. Out of the 32, four each in valley and hill have received sanction amounting to Rs. 16 crores and I do hope remaining funds will be sanctioned soon, the minister said.
In the launching ceremony, Boby Waikhom, Commissioner, YAS; Laishram Sarita, International Boxer; T. Phulen, Director, YAS and Baktakumar, Mister India also attended.
