Thoubal: Polling parties, Polling Security Personnel and officers/officials/staff involved in the conduct of the election were dispatched to their respective polling stations/booths from the Dispatch Centre at Mini Secretariat, DC Office Complex and Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School on Thursday.
The poll parties after proper briefing were handed out election materials which were carried in vehicles for dispatch displaying routes and list of polling stations covered by the vehicle.
A Subhash Singh, DC/District Election Officer, Thoubal along with election officials oversaw the arrangements at the dispatch centre for smooth disbursal of polling personnel to their respective polling stations.
For the district, a total of 248 polling stations have been set up, 123 numbers of polling stations for Inner Parliamentary Constituency and 125 numbers of polling stations for Outer Parliamentary Constituency.
Additionally, 2 special polling station for Internally Displaced voters staying in relief camps or otherwise (friends/relatives) have been set up. Special Polling station at Rice Research Station for voters of 1- Inner Manipur (Gen) Parliamentary Constituency and Special Polling station at Y.K College for voters of 2- Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency will enable Internally Displaced voters to cast their votes.
All polling stations totalling to 40 under Thoubal AC will be all-women polling station and three model polling station in all 6 AC totalling to 18 Model Polling station have been set up.
As per Final Electoral Rolls 2024, there are 2,04,520 voters in Thoubal District. Male voters constitute 99,243 while female voters are at 1,05,262. 15 transgender and 1,287 people with disabilities have been registered in the electoral roll. 4,402 voters have been registered as first time voters and 1,002 voters recorded as voters above the age of 85 years.
6 Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal District falling within the jurisdiction of DC/DEO Thoubal will go into poll on 19th April in the first phase. Voters of 30-Lilong, 31-Thoubal and 32- Wangkhem will cast their vote for the 1 Manipur (Gen) Parliamentary Constituency while the voters of 33-Heirok, 34-Wangjing and 35- Khangabok will cast their vote for the 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency seat.
In the first phase, polling will be held for the 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency seat at assembly segments of 33-Heirok, 34-Wangjing and 35- Khangabok, 36- Wabagai, 37-Kakching, 38-Hiyanglam, 39- Sugnoo,41-Chandel (ST), 46- Saikhul (ST), 50-Kangpokpi, 51- Saitu (ST),57-Henglep (ST) and 58- Churachandpur(ST).
With the commencement of a 48-hour silence period ( from 4pm of 17th April, 2024) ending with the conclusion of the poll, strict guidelines have been put in place in the district for free, fair and smooth conduct of election.
