Imphal: The All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) has organized the Babina Group 64th Sir Churachand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament 2023 for Preliminary Knock-Out Stage-1
at Artificial Ground, Khuman Lampak. The tournament started with 16 teams from the AMFA Cup, Winners Cup, and district champions
The opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Noorul Hassan, MLA, Kshetrigao A/C; Th Naoba, Managing Director, Classic Group of Hotel; Sunil Elangbam, Secy. MOA; Rk Sanayaima, Secy. AMSA and M Ratankumar, President, AMFA as chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
In the opening match XI-Star Sporting Union Akampat secured 7-6 goals against KFA Kangpokpi on penalty shoot-out.
Both teams scored 1-1 goal in the normal time of the match as a kick from the penalty mark decided the result. In the normal time of the 13th minute Julian Keishing of XI-Star Sporting Union scored the lone goal. Kappao Vaiphei collected the lone goal for KFA in the 23rd minute and leveled it 1-1.
In the penalty shoot-out, Joshua Kom, Kh Taibanganba, Indranath, Giftson Kamei, Thoiba and Golmei Apu convert goal for XI-Star Sporting Union while Lamgunlan Kipgen, Sailo, Paogouthang, Ngamgougin, Letminlun Lhanghan scored goal for KFA.
Tomorrow, YWU Kakching will play NERAU FC at 12.15 pm in the first match while SWC Keirak will meet GDC Thinungei at 2.30 pm in the second match.
