Imphal: The Loktak Development Authority (LDA) is all set to host a two-day Regional Level Workshop on the conservation and wise use of wetlands from April 29 to 30 at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong.
The Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Government of India is sponsoring the workshop, which is being conducted as part of Sabhagita Mission (National Mission to enable a society ownership approach for participatory conservation and Wise Use of Wetlands in India). This mission, recently launched by the Government of India, aims at encouraging participatory conservation and wise use of wetlands in the country, covering 165 wetlands and 42 Ramsar sites.
The Ministry is sponsoring similar regional workshops across India, and this particular workshop is one of the four organised so far. The launch of this ambitious mission coincided with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, signifying a significant step towards involving communities and promoting a society ownership approach to wetland conservation and wise use.
The first day of the workshop will be dwelt on brainstorming deliberations by various experts in the field followed by valedictory session in the afternoon to be graced by esteemed guests, including Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, Chief Minister N.Biren Singh, Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Govt of Manipur Th. Biswajit Singh and Chairman of Loktak Development Authority (LDA) M.Asnikumar Singh.
The workshop will be attended by officials, scientists from MOEFCC, Govt of India, knowledge partners, subject experts, representatives of State wetland authorities from more than 10 different States. In addition, participants such as wetland Mitras and dwellers of the wetlands are also participating in the workshop. The event will conclude with a field visit to Loktak Lake on April 30.
