Churachandpur: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has called for an 8-hour shutdown in Churachandpur district on April 28 from 8 am to 4 pm against the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the State Government towards addressing the plight of the people of the district.
Announcing the shutdown call in a press statement issued by its Information & Publicity Department on Thursday, ITLF stated that the tribal organisation has submitted several memorandums to the State Government to voice their grievances and apprehensions about the survey carried out by the government in Reserved Forest/Protected Forest/wetland/wildlife and eviction of villages.
It stated that sentiments of the tribal people were hurt following the demolition of churches by the present government which has ‘absolutely no consideration and respect’ for something which is deeply sacred to those following the Christian faith.
It regretted that even after submitting memorandums repeatedly, the State Government has shown no signs of willingness, no sincerity to address the plight of the people nor has the government shown contrition with regard to the matter.
Heeding the cry of the tribal people and to show their dejection and dissatisfaction with the ‘unlawful activities’ of the government, the ITLF was compelled to resort to non-cooperation of all governmental related programmes and called for a total shutdown in the district on April 28 from 8 am to 4 am, the statement added.
The ITLF also appealed for support and cooperation of the general public in demonstrating dissent against the State Government.
It may be noted that Chief Minister N. Biren Singh is set to visit Churachandpur district headquarter on April 28. The Chief Minister will be inaugurating an open gym at PT Sports Complex, Khomingthang during his visit. He will also attend the 1st anniversary celebration of 58-Churachandpur AC MLA LM Khaute at Sadbhavana Mandap, New Lamka in Churachandpur.
Various students’ bodies including the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Churachandpur have also endorsed the shutdown called by the ITLF.
