Churachandpur (DIO): District Industries Centre (DIC) under the Department of Trade, Commerce & Industries, Government of Manipur conducted a one-day awareness programme on Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme at DIC Training Hall, Churachandpur on Thursday.
S. Khaikhopau Ngaihte, Addl. DC, A. Loken Singh, General Manager, DIC and Dr. Vedmani Kshtrimyum, Person in-charge North Eastern Region, TQS Global Management System attended the programme as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Khaikhopau Ngaihte stated that the objective of the scheme is to encourage the progressive farmers/SHGs, FPOs and entrepreneurs to engage in the food processing sector and maximise the potential of food processing and agricultural activities.
He urged the participants to reap the benefits of the scheme and process local agricultural products to increase their shelf life as well as add considerable value to these products.
In the Technical Session, Lhingneiting Touthang, District Resource Person, DIC spoke on the topic of PMFME, its aims & objectives, support to food processing units and eligibility criteria and more.
Envisioning enhancement of the existing individual micro-enterprises in the unorganised segment of the food processing industry and formalisation of the sector, the PMFME Scheme is currently being implemented in different states and Union Territories.
A large number of local farmers, SHG members and representatives from FPO attended the awareness programme.
