Now, the government is planning to deliver various projects to the people in the next year, he said, adding that the main priority is the issue of water.

Biren said that as the Singda Dam has dried up we are facing water scarcity especially in Imphal. However, we are managing now with water from Thoubal Project and some rain in recent times, he said.

Siltation caused by deforestation in the catchment area at Singda Dam has become a serious issue, and now the priority is to clear the silt, he said.

He said that other than stationing police personnel in the area, fencing and tree plantation drives will be taken up in the catchment area.

At Marjing Hill, construction of a ropeway is underway and we are aiming to complete it by December this year, the Chief Minister said.

Biren further stressed on the importance of preserving forest covers and said that we cannot blame nature for the destruction due to heavy storms and heat waves. It is all our own doing, he said, making an appeal to the people for mass tree plantation.
