Imphal: Chairman Manipur Theatre Council K Radhakumar, Retd IAS, has emphasised on bridging the gap between dramatic literature and performing arts as it would result in failure to deliver understanding by
the audience.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the observation of World Theatre Day observed under the theme ‘Reunite for the Performing Arts and Humanism’ in a formal function organised by Theatre Centre Manipur at Manipur Press Club on Monday.
Chairman K Radhakumar, Chairman Manipur Theatre Council while elaborating on drama, theatre, claimed theatre as a branch of literature in the form of dialogues. The dramatic literature is huge and performing arts often fail to deliver what the performance is about.
He said that the flavour of Dramatic literature is very significant and often there is a huge gap in conveying it to theatrical performance. If the dramatic literature is not fulfilled by theatre, it will have huge impact and it’s the one big reason leading to decrease in audience and one must not forget that we are deep rooted to Manipur culture. The plays will focus on the art and culture of the state rather than adaptation from other parts of the world.
He stressed on better understanding from the perspective of the audience and to take their feedback.
He lamented that there is lack of active members who would work for the upliftment of theatre in
the state.
