Imphal: As a part of Poshan Pakhwada Celebration which was kicked off from March 20 to April 3 across the country, ICDS Project Kakching organised Poshan Pakhwada celebration on the theme “Millets For Nutritional Well Being” at the multipurpose hall Kakching Mayai at Kakching District HQ on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner Kakching Somorjit Salam, Social Welfare Director Ngangom Uttam, ZEO Kakching Y. Achouba and CDPO, ICDS Project Kakching K. Devananda attended as Chief Guest, Functional president and Guests of Honour respectively.
The Poshan Pakhwada was also attended by many Asha workers, Anganwadi workers and helpers from the respective district. Four stalls of immunization, anaemia, Aadhar enrollment and PMMVY including 10 different benefits food stalls from different sector were opened. Altogether, 14 stalls were opened during the Poshan Pakhwada celebration.
Ten different stalls were took part in the competition held as part of the celebration. The winners were awarded cash prize as an encouragement. Speaking at the gathering, DC Kakching Somorjit Salam stressed on the transformation of diet and giving more emphasis on rice as an important diet as well as infection of various diseases to our health, which is much necessary to give high valued added nutrition foods to our children now.
While speaking as Functional president, Social Welfare Director Ngangom Uttam said that in the past, the millets (chanan) was abundantly available in the state but now, the millets plants has been hardly seen in the state. He said that we do not need huge amount
of water to plant the millets and to grow, he added said that the millets is a product that is available with
an affordable price but also give us various vitamin, zinc, iron etc to our body. He appealed to the people
present during the celebration and other citizens to plant millets to use as a nutritional food in order to
make a healthy society.
