Imphal: The District Magistrate Kangpokpi has banned illegal burning of fire on roads or paths adjoining or passing through Reserved and Protected Forests, cautioning that the perpetrators will face the wrath of law.
District Magistrate Kangpokpi Kengoo Zuringla, IAS in a public notice stated that there have been numerous reports of litting of fire i Reserved and Protected Forests in various places in the District in violation of the provisions of Indian Forest Act, 1927.
As such, litting/burning/kindling of fire on roads or paths adjoining or passing through Reserved and Protected Forests is strictly prohibited.
It said that any person desirous of litting of fire in Reserved and Protected Forests shall be punishable under Sec 26 and 33(1)(d) and Sec 33(2) of Indian Forest Act, 1927. Section 64 Indian Forest Act, 1927 provides power to any Forest Officer or Police Officer without orders from a Magistrate and without warrant, arrest any person against whom a reasonable suspicion exists of his/her having been concerned in any forest offence punishable with imprisonment for one month or upwards.
It further maintained that protection of Forest areas are important for our survival and is one of the fundamental duties as citizens of this county and collective effort to save them is the need of
the hour.
