Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has on Thursday lodged a complaint with the City Police Station against some members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) for allegedly attacking its President Ningthoujam Popilal after coming out of Impact TV on Wednesday. Popilal was taking part in the panel discussion of Impact TV “Manung Hutna”.
A team of MPYC led by its President Ningthoujam Popilal on Thursday
went to the Imphal City Police Station and lodged a written complaint, demanding action against the BJYM members involved in the attack on the Youth Congress leader.
According to the complaint, MPYC President N Popilal who took part in the Impact TV’s panel discussion “Manung Hutna” was attacked and threatened by a group of BJYM members
led by Alex Ningombam, Robarth Oinam, both office bearers of BJYM Manipur and their team insisted by Sureshkumar Mayanglambam, BJP Manipur Pradesh Spokesperson at Impact TV main entrance gate after the panel discussion.
Such type of similar incident occurred earlier
too in media house namely IS Com with Congress Media Panelist P. Bankimchandra Meitei.
He demanded necessary action be taken up at the earlier in order to prevent the BJYM members from indulging in further unwanted incidents or crimes.
He also requested to take up urgent necessary safety and security measures of the Spokespersons and Media Panelists of MPCC.
According to a source, Impact TV hosted a pandel discussion on the topic “60 MLAs as warriors of War on Drugs” on Wednesday during which MPYC President N Popilal and BJP Spokesperson Sureshkumar Mayanglambam engaged in heavy exchange of words.
The programme was telecasted live. After the end of the programme, around 30 members of BJYM stormed the Impact TV office. With the news about the plan of attacking the Congress spokesperson Popilal doing the rounds, Popilal and his associates did not go out from the TV channel’s office.
After the tension calmed down, Popilal came out but the group of BJYM members allegedly managed to attack him there.
On receipt of the information, a team of City Police rushed to the spot and managed to pacify the tension. Later, the police team escorted Popilal up to his residence, the source added.
