Imphal: Chief Minister N Biren has conveyed that Rs. 660 crore worth project for development of Lamphelpat water body has started, for which three/four giant machineries have arrived in the State.
The Chief Minster informed this while attending a seminar on Union Budget 2023-24 organised by BJP Manipur Pradesh at JN Manipur Dance Academy on Saturday wherein Union Minister Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar and BJP Manipur Pradesh President A Sharda Devi attended.
Chief Minister Biren disclosed that the tender process for development of Lamphelpat water body with an estimated cost of Rs. 660 crore has been completed.
Informing that three/four giant machineries have arrived in the State to begin the work, he said that once the Lamphelpat is developed as a water body, constituencies like Thangmeiband, Uripok etc. will no longer suffer flood during rainy season and there will be no more water scarcity in localities in Imphal area.
With regard to water scarcity in Imphal city, the Chief Minister appealed to the people not to worry for water considering the drying up of Singda Dam.
He also conveyed that Chingkhei water supply is going to provide water in the localities of Imphal area where water is supplied from Singda Dam.
Water from Thoubal dam has reached Chingkhei Ching water supply. The water from this water supply will be stocked at the water supply inside Kangla which will subsequently provide water to the areas of Keishampat, Langol and others, he explained.
The Chief Minister further informed that a five- star level convention centre will be constructed at Thengu Chingjin. The centre will be equipped
with cafeteria, conference hall, fooding and lodging facilities, he elaborated.
On the Union Budget 2023, the Chief Minister lauded the first General Budget of India’s Amrit Kaal presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as quite unique, pro-poor and oriented towards public welfare.
He said that the budget includes a fine blueprint for initiatives to be taken up in the next 50 years and will facilitate opportunities for citizens by providing a strong impetus for growth and job creation and strengthening macroeconomic stability.
The budget focuses on making India a superpower nation. The seminar was held to make the people aware about the initiatives of the budget, he maintained.
However, some political parties rejected by the people are blaming the budget as anti-poor people, the Chief Minister said, wondering how they termed the budget as anti-poor.
Biren claimed that in the last seven/eight years, the Modi government has constructed above two crore houses for the poor people in the country under PMAY and that living standard of the poor have been lifted under the BJP regime.
The BJP government never makes the poor poorer unlike the CPI and CPI-M regime. The budget provision for PMAY has been increased to 66 percent this time. Tax has been exempted from the persons below seven lakh income per annum. One Earth, One Family and One Future is the foundation of the Union Budget 2023 which emphasizes on inclusive development, reaching out to the last mile, he said.
The Chief Minister elaborated that the budget provision for infrastructure development has been increased to 33 percent as infrastructure development is key to becoming a super power.
In Manipur too, Shri Govindaji Temple, Ibudhou Marjing, INA memorial and Olympian Park have been constructed at global level. The budget focuses on youth empowerment through Start-up schemes that can create employment avenues. Nursing schools will also be opened at JNIMS and Churachandpur Medical College, he added.
