Imphal: Tragedies unleashed by the agonizing second wave of Covid-19 continue to befall the State as 14 more persons died of the deadly virus in a span of 24 hours pushing the death toll to 1628 while 688 persons from the general population and 54 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were detected as new positive cases out of total 5055 samples tested on Friday clocking 14.68 percent positivity rate. A total of 1047 persons were discharged after having recovered from the contagious infection in a single day, surpassing the daily positive cases for the eighth day in a row.
Covid-19 Common Control Room conveyed that the positive persons were tested at RIMS (21), JNIMS (77), District Hospitals (486) and other testing centres (158) and the positive cases from the general population are from Imphal East (141), Imphal West (235), Thoubal (31), Bishnupur (50), Kakching (34), Ukhrul (8), Churachandpur (88), Chandel (19), Senapati (14), Tamenglong (7), Tengnoupal (7), Noney (2), Pherzawl (40), Kamjong (6) and Kangpokpi (6). All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.
The State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee reported 14 deaths in the last 24 hours. The District wise distributions are Imphal West (4), Imphal East (5), Thoubal (2), Bishnupur (1) and Kakching (2). Out of the 14 deaths, nine persons had co-morbidities and only five of them had first doses of Covid vaccine. The 1047 discharged persons are from Home Isolation (434), RIMS (29), JNIMS (15), CCCs (229) and CHICs (340).
The control room in a press release informed that the cumulative number of positive cases is 102,889 (General Population – 98,836 and Central Security Personnel – 4,053) while the cumulative number of recovered cases is 92,894 (General Population – 88,939 and Central Security Personnel – 3,955). The number of active cases is 8,367 (General Population – 8,274 and Central Security Personnel – 3). The recovery rate stood at 90.28 percent, it divulged.
In the last 24 hours, a total of 1722 D-type Oxygen cylinders and 311 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities of the State. The number of doses of Covid-19 vaccine administered on Thursday is 8496 while the cumulative number of doses is 1368523 (first dose – 1134815 and second dose – 233708), it disclosed.
