Ukhrul: In a notable moment for journalism in Ukhrul district, the Ukhrul District Working Journalists’ Association (UDWJA) proudly introduced its first-ever official press jacket during a ceremony held at Hao Services Hotel, Wino on Thursday.

Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL) President SA Ramnganing inaugurated the distinctive jacket, emphasising its importance in empowering local journalists working in diverse and challenging environments.

Ramnganing, in his address, underscored the pivotal role journalists play in fostering societal objectives of peace, harmony, and development. He recognised the press jacket as a crucial tool for journalists navigating unpredictable situations and shedding light on critical issues.

“Through their reports, journalists can bring attention to urgent matters, leading to actionable solutions and positive changes,” he remarked.

Acknowledging the dedication of local journalists, Ramnganing praised their commitment to delivering honest and unbiased news despite their small numbers.

UDWJA President Addie Chiphang expressed gratitude to TNWL and President SA Ramnganing for their unwavering support and sponsorship of the press jacket production.

Chiphang revealed that the idea of the press jacket was conceived during the tenure of former UDWJA President late Thotshang Shaiza. Although progress was hindered by unfavorable circumstances, the launch of the press jacket symbolided the fulfillment of Shaiza’s vision for the association, he said.

The event, attended by UDWJA members and TNWL representatives, included observance of a two-minute silence as a tribute to the departed former president.

The introduction of the official press jacket marks a significant step forward for UDWJA, providing its members with a distinguished identity as they continue their essential role in informing the public.
