Imphal: Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has prepared to conduct Meetei Mayek Competition in 20 different centres in six districts including Jiribam district on May 7.
Talking to reporters at their office here on Sunday, MEELAL Secretary General Langoljam Nongmailembi said that Meetei Mayek was officially implemented on May 18, 2005 after MEELAL inked an agreement with the then State Government. Meetei Mayek competition will be conducted in 20 different centres in six districts namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching including Jiribam.
She appealed to the people, different community, civil society organisations, and any other groups of the state not to impose any bandh, blockade on May 7. He further sought support to make the ensuing competition a successful one. She also appealed to the Police department to give co-operation on the day of competition. Around 10,000 students are expected to take part in the competition, she added.
Meanwhile, MEELAL Secretary Education Paonam Tha Kaba said that the competition will be held in five different category such as Class I-II, Class III-IV, Class V- VI, Class VII-VIII and Class IX-X.
He said that Rs. 5000, Rs. 4000 and Rs. 3000 along with certificates will be awarded to first, second and third respectively. He said that consolation prizes will be given to 10 competitors after selecting from five category, he said adding that Rs. 500 along with certificate each will be given to them.
Dr. Moirangthem Pibarel from Heirok Part-II donated the cash prizes of first, second and third for category Class IX-X while cash prixe for first, second and third for category Class VII-VIII was donated by Director of Tantha Entertainment Private Limited Luwang. The cash prizes for category Class V-VI was donated by MOMA (Soil and Conservation).
