Imphal-Yairipok road bandh affects normal life

Imphal: The Indefinite total shut down imposed on Imphal-Yairipok road has paralysed normal life of the people. 

With no positive response from the Government with regard to the repairing of deplorable Imphal-Yairipok road, All Kongba Road United Clubs Organisations (AKRUCO) and Meira paibi organisations decided to block the road indefinitely from April 25. 

Since early morning, bandh supporters in large numbers came out on the street and blocked Imphal-Yairipok road at Keirao bitra khunou, Irilbung Bazar, Bamonkampu, ,Kalika, Kongba, Bazar and other points of the state highway. 

The agitators blocked the road by piling up of tree branches, GI pipes and burning tyres on the road. Several vehicles were forced back by the protestors. However, School van service, Emergency related vehicles were exempted from the purview of the bandh. No unwanted incident was reported till filing of this report.

The decision to block the road was unanimously resolved during a meeting attended by representatives of local clubs and Meira Paibi organisations held at the community hall of Youth Guidance Club, Kongba Kshetri Leikai on Monday. 

AKRUCO Convenor Lenin Hirom while briefing to reporters said that the Organisation has repeatedly been demanding to repair the Imphal-Yairipok road which is in a deplorable condition for the last few yearas. Several potholes have appeared on the road causing serious inconveniences to the commuters. Road mishaps occured due to the dilapidated condition of the road have claimed many precious lives.

Secretary of Kongba Kshetri Meira Paibi Pangambam Seirabanu Devi also said that the AKRUCO including clubs and meira paibi organisations has been demanding to repair/blacktopping the roads from Imphal to Yairipok since 2017 but so far no positive response received from the side of concerned authorities till date. 

She said that as no positive response received from the concerned authorities till date, the AKRUCO along with leaders of various meira paibi organisations decided to called the bandh. She said that the decision to imposed to blocked the roads along Imphal to Yairipok was taken as there is no other means. She appealed to the concerned authorities to discussed about the repairing/blacktopping of the roads. 

She said that if the state government do not repair/blacktopping the roads at the earliest then the indefinite blocking roads will be continued in the future. Regarding to the matter, a memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh including to concerned. The deplorable roads located under Thongju, Kshetrigao, Keirao, Andro constituencies etc, she added.
