Imphal: A team of Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi has arrested the wife of Manipur Naga Peoples Front (MNPF) Chairman John Francis Kashung who allegedly worked as an overground worker of the party in extorting money from the businessmen, government offices and general public.

Police sources said that based on a credible information received from its own source regarding the movement of some members of MNPF cadres at Nungourok area in Chandel, a team of Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi and women police constable of Porompat Women Police Imphal East led by Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi OC L.Bebekananda Singh and assisted by Head constable H. Omega Meitei and Havildar. L. Kuber Singh under the supervision of Th. Krishnatombi Singh, MPS, SP/Railway, In-Charge Special CDO unit, Khabeisoi rushed to the area and conducted cordon and search operation at Nungourok area at about 2.30 pm on Saturday.

One unknown woman was seen standing in a very suspicious manner. Seeing her suspicious gesture, police detained her for further identification and verification. On spot verification, she identified herself as Kashungnao Olivia (55), wife of John Francis Kashung of Nungourok in Chandel District. On preliminary questioning, she disclosed that she is the wife of John Francis Kashung who is the Chairman of MNPF.

She further revealed that she worked as an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of the banned UG group Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) under the command of her husband John Francis Kashung. She also disclosed that she collected huge amounts of money and transactions from the businessmen, Government offices and general public of Ukhrul area for the organisation.

On April 3, she received a sum of Rs. 15,000 through Gpay on her mobile no. 7005426309 from the active member MNPF Leisa Jojo of Nongdam (T) Village, Nongdam Lamlong, Ukhrul to distribute to the cadres for buying uniforms and medicine etc. She was arrested from her residence at Nungourok, said a source.

On checking the detainee, one Oppo mobile phone (light blue in colour) along with one Jio sim card having mobile no. 7005426309 and one Voter I-D Card bearing No. FLK0605808 were seized. She was arrested at the spot at around 3.30 pm and the items were seized at 3.40 pm. The arrested person along with seized items was handed over to Machi PS for taking further necessary legal action against her, it conveyed.
