Imphal: Decrying the various activities/works taken up by the Kakching Municipal Council, Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association (KBBWA) along with Senior Citizen Forum Kakching has locked the main office building of the municipal council following by a mass rally on Wednesday.
The mass rally which kicked off at around 9:35 AM from Kakching Super Market culminated at the municipal council office, sloganeering against KMC. After the rally, the protestors locked the office building.
Speaking to media person on the sideline of the rally, KBBWA president Nongmaithem Sanatomba said that the local people strongly condemn the hiking of fee for the collection of solid waste mangement from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 and distribution of litter bins without lid during distribution of litter bins in the wards recently.
He alleged the council officials of siphoning off the amount sanctioned under 14th-15th Finance and utilising the amount collected from the market in a wrong way without any execution of developmental works by the Executive Officer along with Caretaker Chairperson as well as councillors.
Amidst the undergoing investigation into the case for collecting Rs. 1000 each from beneficiaries of Housing for All by the Vigilance, the municipal council started working without due tender process. The council collected parking fee and toll tax before every six months but failed to sanction any amount for the welfare of the people and they even tried to siphon off the fund sanctioned for public welfare, he charged.
Sanatomba further said that the Municipal council office will not be allowed to open until the Executive Officer is removed. If the demand is not fulfilled, then the association will launch various forms of agitation.
