Imphal: The Imphal Municipal Cooperation Elected Ward Members Forum (IMCEWMF) has demanded the State Government to fix their election scheduled similiar to the Urban local bodies which was fixed on June 25.
The forum also warned to launch series of agitations including hunger strike from March 31 if their demand is not fulfilled. Talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, Forum General Secretary Elangbam Chandikumar said that the term of the ward members completed on June 2022
but the state government failed to discuss in the Cabinet meeting for election schedule of IMC even as it fixed the Schedule for the Urban Local Bodies on June 25.
He said that the election for the elected ward members and IMC corporators was conducted simultaneously and declared its result on the same day however the Cabinet meeting has left out the elected ward members. He said that even if the period of the Corporators was expired, they were appointed as Caretaker and allowed to serve to the public by the concerned authorities.
He appealed to the State Government to take up necessary step and allow all the elected members to give service to the public of the state. In connection with matter, the forum has submitted a missive written to both IMC Director and Commissioner recently. The forum will try to submit memorandum to the Chief Minister and MAHUD Minister soon.
