Imphal: Health Services Director Dr. K. Rajo has announced that the Health Department will be launching a mobile Covid testing vehicle soon under the supervision of the State Government through which about 3000-3500 persons would get the facility of RT-PCR test.

He made the statement during a press conference held at the conference hall of India Medical Association Manipur State Unit (IMA), Lamphelpat on Friday. 

The Health Director said that the entire people of the State can be tested for Covid-19 through RT-PCR in the mobile testing vehicle by paying a sum of Rs. 450 only and the test result will be made available within 24 hours. He continued that the new initiative taken up by the authorities concerned will enhance mass Covid-19 testing in the State taken up by the health department.

He then noted that the State is witnessing an increase in fresh Covid cases day by day and the death toll remains constant as most of the Covid cases found in the ongoing second wave are mostly of Delta variant type. Many people do not strictly follow Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviours and lack of advancement of mass vaccination drive of the State attributed to disturbing rate of daily positive cases and deaths, he said.    

He also mentioned that in the State, most of the death cases were reported in the month of July and Imphal West district has the highest death case but the good news is that Pherzawl district has no death cases reported till date.

Dr. Rajo conveyed that the authorities concerned are trying their best to tackle the second wave of Covid-19 and emphasis is given on conducting Covid-19 testing and mass vaccination.

He also informed that a selected team of medical staff is keeping an eye on all the positive persons who are being kept in home isolation centres and Covid-19 Control Room is rendering 24 X 7 services to all the needy patients.

He appealed to all the people to extend support and give full cooperation to the Health Department which has been trying its best to tackle the dreaded virus for the last one and half year. Rajo further appealed to all the concerned stakeholders to strictly follow Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviours and get vaccinated at the earliest without any hesitancy.

A three-member team of the Central Government and a team of UNESCO were also present during the press conference.
