Imphal: Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. (SHRI) observed World Patient Safety Day on Saturday at it’s auditorium to raise awareness and promote initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety.
Dr. RK Lenin, Head of the Psychiatry Department at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences; Dr. A Jamuna, Registrar of the Manipur Nursing Council; and Dr. Palin Khundongbam, Chairman and Managing Director of SHRI, were the Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, and President respectively. The event was attended by representatives from various hospitals and organisations across Imphal.
In the welcoming and keynote address, Dr. Subodha N., Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Safety Officer at SHRI, outlined the objectives of World Patient Safety Day 2023.
Dr. A. Jamuna emphasised the significance of World Patient Safety Day and stressed the importance of collaboration among communities, healthcare experts, and stakeholders to foster a safer and more patient-centric healthcare environment.
Dr. RK Lenin underscored the importance of a holistic approach involving patients, their families, and healthcare providers, encouraging the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Palin Khundongbam discussed the imperative for healthcare providers to minimize avoidable medical errors and emphasized the significance of patient safety awareness.
Dr. Jugindra S, Director of Medical Services at SHRI, shared the remarkable journey of SHRI while emphasising the unwavering dedication to patient safety, exemplified by essential practices such as the surgical safety checklist at SHRI.
Dr. T. Gambhir Singh, Head of the Community Medicine Department at Shija Academy of Health Sciences, addressed the topic of patient engagement in medication safety. Dr. Gulliver P., Consultant Nephrologist at SHRI, underscored the importance of collaborative decision-making involving healthcare workers.
Dr. Devendra Kh., Consultant General Surgeon at SHRI, provided insights into patient safety, while Moirangthem Victory, Nursing Supervisor at SHRI, highlighted the crucial role of nursing in ensuring patient safety, while Surjikumari Hidam, AGM Quality at SHRI, discussed the hospital’s commitment to healthcare innovation and excellence by leveraging communication tools to enhance patient safety and Babita N., Matron at SHRI, proposed the vote of thanks.
Under the theme “Engaging patients for patient safety,” World Patient Safety Day 2023 emphasised the crucial roles of patients, their families, and caregivers in ensuring healthcare safety. The World Health Organisation (WHO) encourages all stakeholders to elevate the voice of patients by involving them in policy development, representation in governance structures, co-designing safety strategies, and active participation in their own care.
With the observance of World Patient Safety Day, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute reiterated its commitment to fostering safer and more patient-centric healthcare, underscoring its dedication to this crucial cause.
