Imphal: Villagers of Konsakhul, Kangpokpi District staged a protest rally decrying the repeated threats imposed by Lailon Vaiphei Village and the recent abduction of two villagers from Konsakhul and vandalising vehicles on Thursday.
The rally was jointly participated by Liangmai Naga Students Union, Eastern Zone at IGNTU campus from Makhan Village till National Highway no.2 Imphal -Dimapur road. The protesters strongly raised slogans condemning the incident which took place at Konsakhul, demanded action against police personnel for assaulting innocent villagers, no immigrants will acts as owners, Go Back Illegal Immigrants and condemned burning vehicles.
Imphal West Police personnel took control of the situation to prevent any unwanted incidents and there was a scuffle between the police personnel and protesters.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Timothy Chawang, Chairman, Eastern Zone Liangmai Naga Students Union stated that the protest has been demonstrated by the innocent people of Khonsakhul against the repeated threats by Lailon Vaiphei Village which had taken shelter in the village. He said that the demand for the rally is mostly for arrest of alleged persons of Lailon Vaiphei Village involved in the abduction of two persons on March 26, destroying JCB and setting ablaze of a vehicle. He deliberated that people of the village demand rightful action against the police personnel of Leimakhong PS involved in the physical assault of two innocent persons of the village. He called the attention of the government to look into the matter as Illegal Immigrants have acted as land owners.
He appealed to Chief Minister N Biren to deliver justice and give rightful punishment to the persons involved and to maintain peace in the village.
