Failure to protect Forest will spell doom for Future: RK Amarjit

Imphal: Conservator of Forest RK Amarjit who is also in charge of DFO Central Forest Division has said that the state will land in jeopardy unless the present generation fails to protect the Reserve Forest and protected Forest of the state.
Addressing at an oneday awareness programme on Prevention of Deforestation and protection of Forest fire organized by BJP Heingang Mandal at Heingang Makha Leikai Rural Multipurpose hall on Sunday, RK Amarjit said that 4.4 percent of the entire hill area is Reserve Forest and 14.5 percent is protected Forest. Future generation will land in jeopardy unless the present generation fails to take up measures to protect the Reserve Forest and Protected Forest.
Apart from human being, all other living beings also need Oxygen for survival. Living beings get all requirements including Oxygen for survival from the Forest. The wise forefathers who sensed the necessity of forest conserved Forest since time immemorial.
He said that There are around 36 biodiversity hot spots in the World. Several medicinal plants and
fauna are available in Manipur which located in a biodiversity hotspot area. The rare Sangai (brow
antlered deer) and Shiruiy Lily which not available in any parts of the globe are available in Manipur’s keibul Lamjao National Park and Ukhrul district. Protection of the tiny Reserve Forest and
protected forest is the bounden duty of the present generation, he maintained.
He said that considering the ill impacts as fallout of mass deforestation and environmental degradation to be faced by the future generation, we should pledge together to protect the forest areas which will provide a conducive space for survival of all living beings including human and medicinal
plants.
