Mumbai (Agency): In a significant announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Lal Krishna Advani will be honored with the prestigious Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award. PM Modi expressed his joy, stating, “I am very happy to share that LK Advani will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honour.” He described the moment as emotional.
Highlighting Advani’s stature, PM Modi referred to him as “one of the most respected statesmen” and emphasized his monumental contribution to India’s development. From grassroots involvement to serving as the deputy Prime Minister, Advani’s parliamentary interventions were lauded.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed gratitude to PM Modi for the decision, stating, “The decision to award Bharat Ratna to the revered LK Advani ji, an inspiration to all of us and a senior leader of the country, has brought great joy and happiness.” He praised Advani as a symbol of purity, dedication, and determination in politics.
Born on November 8, 1927, Advani served as the president of the BJP for an extended period since its inception in 1980. With a parliamentary career spanning nearly three decades, he held significant positions, including home minister and deputy PM in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet.
