Thoubal: The Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) Manipur on Wednesday announced that the prestigious “Dr.Thiyam Suresh Literary 2023” will be conferred to renowned writer Oinam Tunal popularly known as “Chana Lukhoi” from Chana Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.
A press release issued by PAWF Manipur Secretary Rakesh Naorem conveyed that the award, which is the first literary award of PAWF Manipur was donated by RK Tamphasana Devi and her family in the name of her Late husband Dr.Thiyam Suresh, a scholar and former Director of Health Services Manipur. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 10000, shawl, citation and memento and it will be given annually starting from this year.
The release informed that the award presentation ceremony will be held on May 1 at Ima Banquet Hall, opposite to Churachandpur parking, Keisampat at 1 pm.
Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arunkumar will be the Chief Guest while PAWF Manipur President Naoroibam Khamba Luwang will preside over the event, it added.
Recipient of the award Chana Lukhoi was born in 1950 and is a renowned Sumang Leela (courtyard play, a traditional theatre form of Manipur) writer. He also wrote scripts of some Manipuri feature films. He is an approved playwright of AIR and DDK Imphal.
Some of his highly acclaimed Shumang Leela plays and all time favourite of audiences include “Keishamthong Thoibi”, “Sabi Sanou Express”, “Eegi Nong” and others.
Chana Lukhoi is a regular columnist of The Sangai Express daily, Member of Kangla Ford Board and Kangla Religious Committee, Academic Council Member of Manipur University of Culture and visiting guru of the university.
He has received Best Script Writer award 18 times and Second Best Script Writer award 9 times in All Manipur Shumang Leela Competition. Chana Lukhoi is known widely for his contribution in promoting Shumang Leela.
