IMPHAL: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Manipur (ZSUM) and All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) have expressed both their amazement and condemnation in its strongest term against the hospitals and concerned authorities over the death of Kanpatliu Kamei, wife of Roshan Balang from Puichui (Oktan) village, a pregnant woman who died along with her unborn baby in the wee hours of August 6, 2020 after reportedly been denied medical care in several hospitals.
In a joint press release the students’ bodies fully condemned the negligence, irresponsibility and inhuman act of doctors and nurses and staffs of hospitals who had denied treatment of the patient during her time of emergency.
However, the unions also extended their appreciation and thanks to the State health department for taking up a quick action in constituting an enquiry committee to look into the events leading to the death of Kanpatliu Kamei.
The unions urged the hospitals to extend cooperation to the enquiry committee for fair collection of the information and request the committee to submit the report within the stipulated time, failing which the students’ bodies will initiate different form of democratic agitations.
The unions are very much saddened by her demise and shared sincere condolence and deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. May the almighty Tingwang guide, bless and comfort the bereaved family, the press release added.
