Imphal: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Delhi (ZSUD), Zeliangrong Welfare Association, Delhi (ZWAD) have submitted a Memorandum to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur and the Hon’ble Minister for TD & Hills, Government of Manipur regarding the proposed “Rani Gaidinliu” Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museum in Manipur in recognition of the contributions of prominent freedom fighter, Rani Gaidinliu.
The Zeliangrong people are extremely grateful to the Government of India and the Government of Manipur for taking the necessary initiatives to restore the pre-fix “Rani Gaidinliu” for this proposed Museum as it was originally conceived, ZSUD President Gairianglu Gonmei and ZWAD President Benjamin Panmei said in a press release.
While deeply appreciating the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for this ambitious project of honouring the contribution of Rani Gaidinliu in India’s freedom struggle, the ZSUD & ZWAD said it is unfortunate to note that the Govermment of Manipur has not been able to execute the proposed Museum project till date due to manipulation and misleading the issue resorted to by the bureaucrats and vested interest few politicians leading to inordinate delay in the construction of the said Museum which in fact is an insult to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ambitious project and also to the selfless contribution rendered by the renowned freedom fighter, Rani Gaidinliu who is a Padma Bhusan awardee.
Having seen that no effective and concrete steps have been taken up by the State Government, the Zeliangrong Civil Organizations (ZCOs) including ZSUD and ZWAD have submitted Memorandums to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Union Minister for Tribal Affairs on this matter, the organizations said.
The organizations also said the Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum to be constructed in Manipur is a dream project of Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, in memory of Rani
They further said that it is distinct and clear that the Museum to be constructed in Manipur has to be “Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museum” as it has been dedicated to her by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and Arjun Munda, the Hon’ble Union Minister for Tribal Affairs.
In so far as the location of the proposed Museum is concemed, it may be relevant to mention that the freedom movement of Rani Gaidinliu was mainly confined in Tamenglong District, Manipur, Cachar Hill and Naga Hill. Therefore, based on the observations made by Dr K.K. Chakravarty, the external expert in the National Level Committee for setting up of Tribal Freedom Fighter Museums recorded in the NLC meeting held on 11″ to 13 February, 2019, the most appropriate and suitable location for construction of Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museum is Tamenglong District where Rani Gaidinliu was born, brought up, began her movement and sacrificed her life in the freedom struggle.
In light of the above, the ZSUD and zWAD would like to appeal to the Government of Manipur that the proposed Museum be constructed at the location i.e. the birth place of Rani Gaidinliu i.e Luangkao village, Tousem Sub-Division, 1amenglong District, Manipur, or any feasible place at Noney District or Tamenglong District (Tamenglong District was bifurcated into two districts in 2016. Hence, these two districts are the native districts of Rani Gaidinliu), it stated.
