Youth from Telipati found dead in drain, family suspects foul play

Imphal: A youth from Telepati was found dead in a swallow drain at Wangkhei Tokpam Mamang Leikai under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East by joggers on Monday morning.

Upon checking the deceased body, it was able to identify him as Kishankumar Sahu (27 years), son of Dilipkumar Sahu of Telipatti, Imphal East through his aadhar card and voter ID card found in his wallet.

According to report receive by this reporter, at between 5:30 to 6 am some morning joggers spotted the deceased sitting at the edge of the drain and others discovered the deceased body in the drain.

Immediately the concern police station was informed of the discovery.

A team of Porompat Police personnel and Manipur Police Forensic Science arrived at the incident spot and examined the deceased body and the scene of the incident.

Later, the police team picked up and deposited the body at the mortuary of JNIMS Hospital for post mortem.

Further the report also said that from footage of a CCTV device that was installed in the vicinity on the opposite side of the road, the youth was found sitting at the edge of the drain and consequently falling into it. A barber shop run by a non-Manipuri is located next to the drain.

The exact cause of the dead still remains unknown; however, it is suspected that the deceased might have accidentally fallen into the drain in an inebriated state or under the influence of drugs. The deceased also had an injury mark on his right cheek.

Members of the house near where the body was found told this reporter that as they had made themselves confined inside their home due to the lockdown and curfew, they had no idea about the incident or the deceased person.

They came to light about it only when some morning joggers and walkers known to the family informed them.

On the other hand, according to family members of the deceased, he went out from home at around 9:30 pm after having dinner on Sunday.

The deceased mother waited for him till around 2 am as he did not return.

Unfortunately, the family members were informed about the death of Sahu and recovery of the body on Monday at around 8:30 am.

The family members suspected of foul play behind his death arguing that it was beyond their understanding that his dead body was found many kilometers from his home.

Meanwhile, the deceased body has been handed over to the family members after conducting post mortem at JNIMS Hospital mortuary at around 3:30 pm.

Porompat Police has registered a case and investigation is underway.
