IMPHAL: Angry locals and family members of a mentally abnormal minor rape victim on March 2, 2020 attacked 24-year-old rape accused Sanasam Malemnganba when he was brought out in the court after been remanded into judicial custody remand by Special Judge, POCSO Imphal East.
The accused Sanasam Malemnganba alias Nganba Meitei, 24, son of Inao of Sawombung VDF post Leirak was produced before the court by the IO of Imphal East women.
The police after completion of 4 days’ police custody remand approached the court along with the prayer for remanding the alleged accused in judicial custody for smooth investigation of the case.
The IO of the case through Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) submitted that during the police custody interrogation the accused admitted the charges leveled against him and stated Tangba who was earlier arrested in connection with the case and released on bail by the same court on February 28, 2020 was not involved in the heinous crime.
It was further submitted that the alleged accused admitted that he had pulled the victim girl to the paddy field (Hiripat) and sexually assaulted the minor girl in the bushes and hide the minor victim from the locality and later dropped the minor victim in the middle of the paddy field.
The court heard the submission of Special Public Prosecutor (PP) and on perusal of the material on record, the court observed that the charges leveled against the alleged accused is under Section 6 of POCSO. The court found sufficient prima facie evidences for allowing the prayer of IO of the case and thus remanded the alleged accused into judicial custody remand till March 16, 2020.
It is said that Laishram Tangba, who was granted bail by the same court in connection with the case was also present during the court proceeding and was further directed to appear on March 16 before the court.
On the other, the father of the accused filed an application through their defense counsel under Section 9 of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act read with Section 34 of POCSO Act for passing appropriate order for forwarding the alleged to Juvenile Board.
The court registers it as Cril Misc case and directed the petitioners to produce witnesses to prove the plea of juvenile of his son alleged accused and court has fixed March 16 for further hearing.
A large number of angry womenfolk’s and family members of the minor victim attacked the accused when he was being brought out of the court room towards the police vehicles. They pelted water bottles and other objects before the accused was quickly whisked away from Cheirap Court complex.
