Imphal: Wushu association of a Manipur organised a reception ceremony for all the medalists and players who had participated at the 19th Sub-Jr. National Wushu Championship at Salt Lake, Kolkata, and also the Gold Medalist of the 13th South Asian Games at Kathmandu, at Sagolband Bijoy Govinda Keli Makhong Community Hall on Sunday.
The main dignitaries were MLA S. Rajen Singh of Lamshang A/C who attended the function as the Chief Guest, President of Wushu Association of Manipur Kh. Gojendro who presided over the function, and Social worker Thounaojam Maheshwar, IPSA President Joychandra konthoujam, Principal of ITI Ukhrul N. Bikram and chairman of Manipur Development Co-operation A. Meiraba who attended as the guests of honor. The event was solemnized by all the main dignitaries with the candle lighting ceremony and with the demonstration of various martial art formations.
MLA S. Rajen congratulated all the medalists who brought fame and prestige on different categories of National and International championship events. He said that martial art forms like Wushu is becoming as an adopted discipline of sports in Manipur. He acclaimed MC Mary Kom stating that it is a privilege of all the people of Manipur, that a renowned Olympic medalist has been nominated as the Member of Parliament since BJP-Led government retained its power in 2014. It is a well deserved recognition that we achieved being the power house of sports in the country.
Establishment of Sports University by the central government in the state is one of the biggest achievements and recognition of potentiality in sports, and thus the credit goes to all the sportspersons of the state, he said applauding the sportsperson. He also expressed his depth concern over corruptions in construction of sports infrastructures, conduct of trial selection process and disgraceful manner of disruption of sportsperson’s career by some people for benefits of their own and vested interest.
Social worker Maheshwar Thounaojam, President of Republican Party of India (Athawale) Manipur state committee & General Secretary NE stated that sportsperson were appreciated only after they got to certain recognition levels in their life after so many financial, emotional struggle and hardships they’ve ever faced in their life. He requested all concerned departments and minister of youth and affairs sports in the state to kindly acknowledge the various unpleasant hardships encountered by all sportspersons and shower them with hopes and dreams in the future.
So, it’s also indeed his pleasure to help support those potential players from grass roots level so that they can train themselves for their achievements and pursue their sporting dreams with less mental hardship. Saying that communication gap is the main cause in slowing down all developments he made his plans clear on keeping in touch and exchanging communication with one and sundry for bringing development and recognition for the state in sports.
